How to Pass PSM1 Certification
Hallo all, today along with work from home policy and social distancing policy from government, I want to share my experiences how to pass the PSM1 (professional scrum master) certification. On January 2020 my company ‘OGYA’ encouraged me to take a SCRUM master cource held by srum.org. So I took a course on february 21, 2020 for two days. After participating the cource, on march 08,2020 I took PSM1 exam, finally succeded and got score 87. Minimum trashold of PSM1 certification is 85.
Follwing are steps before doing the exam :
1. Print out the scrum manual book : The scrum manual book only contains 19 pages, although only 19 pages it is hard to master. Read the manual book every day until you get undertanding the meaning of each word. Make notes or summaries on the print out manual scum book.
2. Take the scrum open accessment test at https://www.scrum.org/open- assessments. At first attempt I got score around 50, for max score 100. And my strategy was to take scrum open accessment test everyday for 2 weeks before exam. After taking the scrum open accessment test, I read the questions and answers carefully until I got a good understanding.
3. Take some exercises from https://mlapshin.com/index.php/scrum-quizzes/sm-learning-mode/ do the exercices until you get score 95% as minimum, and do it repeatedly.
4. To validate your understanding, please take benafits from https://www.scrum.org/index.php/forum/scrum-forum . at the forum you can discuss or ask about specific topic.
5. Keep in mind that scrum master is a servant leader. As a servant leader, the job of scrum master is to encourage or support scrum team in taking decisions. This is the main different between scrum master and project manager. Scrum master encourages scrum team while project manager always gives an order to team. Some questions on exam are very tricky, choose an answer which has “supporting or encouraging” word and avoid “giving an order” word.
6. The exam consist of 80 questions with 1 hour time box. Do the exam on fresh condition and the preparation are : a good internet connection, a pencil / pen and a blank paper to mark difficult questions to be reviewed. Make sure you can finish the exam in maximal 50 minutes, and use the left time to review the marked question.
